The morning ritual began with skincare.
At first, it was simply a way to care for my skin. A few minutes at the sink, a favorite serum, and a layer of sunscreen before moving on to the next thing. Over time, however, it became something more.
It became a way to begin the day.
There is something comforting about moving through familiar steps. Washing away the night. Applying a serum with care. Smoothing on sunscreen. Taking a moment to notice how my skin feels today rather than focusing on what I wish were different.
The products matter, but they are not the heart of the ritual.
The heart of the ritual is the pause.
A warm cup of coffee rests nearby. The house is still quiet. Morning light filters through the windows. Before emails, errands, responsibilities, and decisions, there is a moment to arrive in the day.
As I have grown older, I have come to appreciate these small beginnings. They remind me that I do not have to rush into the day. I can begin gently.
Twenty minutes may seem insignificant, yet those minutes often shape the hours that follow. They help me move from sleep to wakefulness, from intention to action, from simply existing to fully participating in the day ahead.
What began as skincare has become stewardship.
A way of caring for the face that has smiled, worried, laughed, grieved, and weathered many seasons.
A way of tending the roots before growing the branches.
And so each morning I wash, nourish, protect, and prepare. Not because I am trying to become someone else, but because I am learning to care well for the person I already am.
The morning ritual reminds me that every day is a beginning.
And every beginning deserves a gentle welcome.
